ESCAPE TO THE GREAT DRAKENSBERG MOUNTAINS

Drakensberg

The Drakensberg is the eastern portion of the Great Escarpment, which encloses the central Southern African plateau. The Great Escarpment reaches its greatest elevation – 2,000 to 3,482 metres within the border region of South Africa and Lesotho.

The Drakensberg, or "Dragon Mountains" (Zulu: uKhahlamba, "barrier of spears"), is the highest mountain range in Southern Africa, rising over 3,000 meters. Stretching over 350 km along the Lesotho border and KwaZulu-Natal, this UNESCO World Heritage Site is known for its dramatic basalt cliffs, steep gorges, hiking, and ancient San rock art.
